Frequently Asked Questions
How Much Money Will I make?
This is a lottery style miner (similar to Bitaxe or Nerdminer); it gives you a chance to earn real Bitcoin, but results are not guaranteed. Think of it sort of like buying a lottery ticket; except most lottery tickets expire immediately after the drawing, but with a Lottery Miner you pay only one time and the miner runs 24/7 looking for Bitcoin!
What is a “Lottery Miner”
Solo Bitcoin mining is also known as “lottery” mining. This is because when you solo mine, the bitcoin you win does not have to be shared with others, as it does when you mine as a member of a group pool. When you mine in a group pool, any Bitcoin payouts are distributed throughout all the members in the group. In solo (lottery) mining, you get to keep the entire block reward of 3.25 Bitcoins all for yourself, minus any pool fees. Since 3.25 Bitcoin equals a six figure dollar amount, winning Bitcoin in this manner is often called winning the “Bitcoin Lottery”. While unlikely, it is not impossible to win Bitcoin with a solo lottery miner.
How Does it Work?
The method through which new Bitcoins are placed into circulation is known as Bitcoin mining. This involves using a computer to attempt to solve a very challenging math problem. The complexity of this problem helps to keep financial transactions on the Bitcoin network secure. The first computer to solve the problem wins a block of 3.25 bitcoins as a reward. A Bitcoin block is awarded approximately every 10 minutes.
Can I Run More Than One Miner at a Time?
Absolutely! This is called a Bitcoin “mine farm”, and it is very popular around the world. You can run as many devices simultaneously as you want, and access your mining stats for all devices by typing the IP address of your lottery miner into the URL of your web browser (this only works while connected to the same WIFI network as your lottery miner).
How Do I Know my Lottery Miner is Working?
The built-in LCD screen displays your mining progress in real-time, showing your hashrate and any Bitcoin you’ve earned. The screen goes dark after 60 seconds to conserve energy, but you can wake-up the device at any time by pressing the “boot” button for 3 to 5 seconds. The blue status light underneath the device is the indicator that its working, even when the screen is dark.
You can also check your mining stats by typing the IP address of your solo lottery miner into your web browser, or by visiting public-pool.io and typing your bitcoin receive address into the search bar. (Bear in mind pool stats are often inaccurate; the most accurate stats will be shown on the device itself.)
What Coins Can I Mine?
Your solo lottery miner can mine any SHA256 coin, however this is only for advanced users as the solo miner defaults to Bitcoin and pre-populates the appropriate mining pool for ease of use. If you choose to mine a different SHA256 coin you will need to select the appropriate low difficultly mining pool for the coin you’ve selected and configure the solo Bitcoin miner manually. (Pocket Miner does not provide technical support for alternative coin mining.)
Can I Mine in a Group Pool with Pocket Miner?
Yes, but you will have to select the appropriate low difficulty group pool and configure the device manually. Also keep in mind if you choose to join a group pool, you will have to share any Bitcoin you earn with everyone in the pool based on the rules of the mining pool you have joined. Pocket Miner does not provide technical support for advanced or alternate mining methods.
